Abstract

432,785. Instantaneous steam generators; heating boilers by steam. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON., Winterthur, Switzerland.-(Assignees of Marti, W. ; 36, Murifeldweg, Berne, Switzerland) Jan. 30, 1935, No. 3046. Convention date, March 9, 1934. [Class 123 (ii)] [See also Group XXVI] A steam generating and power installation comprises a high pressure once through boiler 1 with a constant feed supply maintained by a pump 6, and a low pressure boiler 3, constituting a heat accumulator, which is heated by the separated hot water from a separator 9 in the high pressure boiler between the generating section 8 and the superheating section 10. The water is discharged from the separator into the boiler 3 through a throttle 32, the cross-section of which is such that when the pressure in the high pressure boiler is normal, all the water supplied at the highest charge can flow through the throttle ; or the discharge from the separator is regulated in accordance with the quantity of water in the separator. The superheated high pressure steam is supplied to the high pressure stage 13 of an engine and then, under the control of a governor operated valve 21, to the low pressure stage 18, the surplus steam passing through a pipe 19 into heat exchanger 20 in the low-pressure boiler. When the pressure in the steam supply pipe 12 rises, a valve 37 is opened and the steam flows through the pipes 38, 39 directly to the low pressure stage and the low pressure boiler. Low pressure steam is normally supplied through a pressure regulator 47 to a main 46. The pipe 45 before the regulator communicates with a condenser 50, from which condensate, together with the condensate from the heatexchanger 20, flows into the feed tank 5. Feedwater is drawn from the tank by a pump 55 and is delivered through a pipe 56 to the feed pump 6. Fresh feed is supplied by a pump 57 to the low pressure boiler through a heater 60 arranged above the high pressure boiler. The low pressure boiler may be heated by direct contact of the hot water and steam with the boiler water. The firing of the high pressure boiler is regulated in accordance with the water level or the pressure in the low pressure boiler.
