374,610. Vertical steam boilers. FOUNTAIN, H. J., Australia House, Strand, London. May 26, 1931, No. 15432. [Class 123 (ii).] In a steam generator or water heater comprising an annular water chamber 1 from which closed ended water-tubes 3 project into the heating space through which combustion gases flow and containing a hollow baffle 5, the baffle is adapted for use as an air heater or separate water heater by providing an inlet pipe 7 and an outlet 8 for the air or water. The air thus heated may be supplied to the heating means of the boiler. The baffle may be supported solely by the pipes 7, 8 and these may be concentric. A byepass is provided between pipes 7, 8 to short-circuit the baffle if it should leak.
