Class 64(1) A heater 6 for a water tank 1 comprises a conduit 7 which communicates at one end with a conduit 8, the conduits being so formed that hot gases may ascend the conduit 7, and after reversing their direction of flow, pass into the conduit 8 from the bottom of which they escape. The gases are conveyed to a discharge conduit 15 fitted with a damper 16. Alternative arrangements for the conduit 15 are shown at 17, 18 and 19. The tank 1 is provided with an insulating layer 2, an outer shell 3, an inlet pipe 4 and an outlet pipe 5. The heater 6 may be fitted with a gas burner and may also be applied to instantaneous or semi-instantaneous water heaters.
