Abstract

651,294. Hot-water &c. boilers; heating air. BAXTER, H., and WILLINGHAM, H. G. April 2, 1949, No. 9401/48. [Classes 64(i) and 64(iii)] A heater for liquid and air comprises a liquid container divided into two separate compartments 11, 12, one heated by a combustion furnace 13 adjacent to or at least partially surrounded by it, and the liquid in the second compartment 12 being heated by that in the first, heat-exchange pipes 21 communicating with the first compartment to enable the liquid in it to heat the air around the pipes. Air is drawn over the pipes 21 by a fan 26. The combustion gases from the furnace flow through tubes 14 to a header 15 and then through a pipe 16 to tubes 17 in the path of the air to be heated. The pipe 16 has a condensate outlet 19. Immersion heaters may be provided in the liquid compartments, which may be connected to hot-water' supply systems. In a modification, the second liquid compartment is mounted above the first between it and the air heating tubes, which are connected to the first compartment by tubes passing through the second compartment
