Abstract

422,220. Water-tube hot-water boilers. LEWIS, W. Y., 16, Woronzow Road, St. John's Wood, London. Aug. 4, 1933, No. 21987. [Class 64 (i)] A boiler consists of rows of contacting circular or looped tubes 7<a>, 7d, secured to the V-shape or parallel sides of a header 3 having a detachable cover 4, the rows of tubes forming walls between which the heating gases are directed in a sinuous path by baffles 9. The gases from a furnace 13 flow upwards over the outer wall of circular tubes 7<b>, pass by way of recesses 15 in the back wall of the heater into the annular space 16 between the tube walls. The gases pass from the two sides of the annular space through a recess 15<a> in the front wall and then flow through the central space 8, containing air heaters 20 and enter the outlet flue 19. The gases may be directed from front to back through the annular flue, on one side of the heater and from back to front in the annular space on the other side. Water flows from a trough 5 over some of the inner tubes through the tubes to a compartment 24 on the other side of the header, and returning through the other inner tubes it enters the outer tubes, which open into the outlet compartment 26. In a modification, the tubes are heated by the hot gases from an oil burner in the central space 8, and the inlet trough is arranged over the ends of some of the outer tubes.
