The present invention relates to improvements in heating boilers, and has for an object to provide an improved boiler adapted to absorb more fully and completely the heat units from the gases before such gases leave the heating surfaces of the boiler and coils.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved boiler designed for safety and simplicity of manufacturing and repairin /Vith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention will be more fully described hereinafter, and will be more particularly pointed out in the claim appended hereto.

Referring more particularly to the drawings. the combustion chamber is indicated at and in the upper portion of this combustion chamber are disposed a plurality of multiple coils.
The coils may be constructed of any desired diameter and of anv desired number of turns or convolutions and of steel, copper or other desired material. The multiple coils are composed of units 11, 12 and 18 and they communicate at the lower ends with headers or pipes 14: which lead to the water legs 15. The water legs are included between the inner and outer shells 16 and 17 which preferably extend down to the floor line. At their upper ends the coils 11, 12 and 13 connect by way of headers or pipes 18 with the steam chamber or hot water header 19. The steam or hot water passes upwardly from this chamber 19 through the risers 20 to the radiators or other points.
The upper portion of the combustion chamber 10 is closed by a head 21 through which connects a primary fine, 22 having adamper 23 therein.
In the this 22is a lateral opening or port 24 opening into the front excess heat absorbing chamber 25. This front chamber is separated from the rear heat absorbing chamber 26 by a partition wall or bafile plate 27. This baflie plate extends all the way up to the top of the heat absorbing chambers but at its lower-ends it terminates short of the outer casing 28 and of the space between the outer casing 28 and the outer shell 17.
The lower end of the coil 29 connects with the water leg 15. The upper end of the coil 29 may connect with the water leg or with the vapor chamber 19, and also preferably with an outlet 31 by which hot water may be taken off for any appropriate purpose. The outlet 31 may feed a domestic hot water heater.
A flue connection or bypass 32 is con nected between the rear excess heat absorbing chamber 26 and the flue 22 beyond the damper 23. The return pipes are indicated at The exterior casing 28 may be insulated, if desired, in accordance with usual practioe.
In the use of the device it will be appreciated that a large combustion space or fire box 10 is provided with a multiplicity of coils in its upper portion so as to increase the water space as much as possible up to a safe margin below choking the draft. The two excess heat absorbing chambers extend completely around the entire outside casing 28 of the boiler and contains a set of coils 29 to absorb the heat units from the gases in their travel over the entire outside shell 17 of the boiler. i
The vertical baffle plate 27 fits tightly to the top of the excess heat absorbing chambers and also fits tightly around the coils 29 in the center of the chamber, thus dividing same into front and rear chambers. The baffle plate extends down within a few inches from the bottom of these chambers oneach side of the boiler, leaving openings 34 therebeneath for the passage of the gases.
There is a primary flue travel in the chimney through the fiue 22 which is open directly into the chimney when firing starts.
The damper 23 located in the primary fiue 22 will be closed manually or by the use of an automatic damper closed from the heat passing through it in a short space of time. This first direct gas travel to the chimney will have created a draft in the chimney in case there was not sufficient draft to pull hot gases down through chamber 25.
After the closing of the damper 23, the gases will be obliged to flow out the lateral port 24 and into the front excess heat absorb ing chamber 25. In this chamber the gases will be drawn downward from draft and will passbelow the baflie plate 27 through the openings 34 to the other side of such bafiie plate and into the rear excess heat absorbing ing from said combustion chamber and having a lateral port communicating with the front excess heat absorbing chamber, said heat absorbing chambers communicating at their lower portions, a damper in said flue, and a by-pass from the upper portion of the rear excess heat absorbing chamber to the flue beyond the damper.

For blower type burners, the water legs 15 will be extended across the bottom of the combustion chamber 10 making a water base.
The hot water or steam is carried to the radiators or other source through the risers 2 0 and the cold water is returned to the boiler through the returns 33.
It will be apparent that combustion gases travel over the entire inside and the entire outside of the boiler itself caused by the especially constructed and designed excess heat absorbing chambers.
The outside shell of the boiler will give direct heating surface. The utilization of this outer surface makes possible an extremely high efliciency in operation.
It is obvious that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction and design of the above specifically described embodiment of this invention, without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes and modifications being restricted only by the scope of the following claim.
