Abstract

1,221,521. Steam generators; heating air for burners. MITCHELL ENG. Ltd., and E. C. RICHARDSON. 25 April, 1968 [29 April, 1967], No. 19840/67. Headings F4A and F4B. In a water tube boiler in which the combustion gases flow through the annular spaces between at least three coaxial helically wound tubular coils 39, 36, 40, the convolutions of the coils are non-circular, e.g. square or rectangular. Feedwater enters at 30 and flows through the outermost coil 29, comprising three coils 31 in parallel, to a header 33 connected by pipe 35 to the middle coil 36 which is connected by pipes 38, 39, to the innermost coil 40, the upper end of which is connected by pipe 43 to a coil 42 forming a baffle closing the end of the coil 36. Gases from the burner 26 flow upwardly within coil 40, downwardly between coil 40, 36 and upwardly over the coils 31 to the outlet 15. The steam is conducted by pipe 46 to a separator 47 from which pipe 48 leads to a point of use or to a superheater coil located between coil 36, 40. The centre of the baffle 47 is closed by an explosion door 15. Air for the burner is supplied by a blower 22 through pipe 21 and space 20 within the furnace wall.
