Abstract

787,280. Boiler furnaces. AKTIEBOLAGET SVENSKA MASKINVERKEN. June 16, 1955 [June 18, 1954], No. 17464/55. Class 51 (1). [Also in Group XIII] A steam boiler plant comprises two groups of vertically-stacked pulverized fuel-fired combustion chambers 1, Figs. 1, 2, each chamber being fed with fuel through a duct 2 and with combustion air through suitable apertures therein. Combustion products from the chambers join in a common channel and from whence they are conveyed to a chimney via superheater 5a, 5b, economizer 6, air heater 7 and fan 8. A fan 9 supplies the combustion air to the heater 7 from whence it passes to the chambers through the space formed around the latter by a casing 10. The walls of each chamber are lined with bare tubes 14 which are arranged in the water circulatory system of the plant between a steam drum 11 and headers 13. The casing 10 is preferably heat-insulating and each chamber is made as a separate insulated unit. Fuel and air control devices are provided to enable any of the chambers to be taken out of operation if required. The plant may comprise more than two vertical groups and the tubes of the chambers may have interspaces therebetween so that combustion air or returned flue gases may be passed over the tubes in order to avoid ash deposits thereon. The chambers may be made such that fuel, air and combustion products are caused to whirl therein and the ash is removed in a molten state. A common ash outlet may be provided at the lower end of each vertical chamber group. The chambers may be oil or gas-fired.
