Abstract

782,962. Forced-flow steam boilers. COMBUSTION ENGINEERING, Inc. Oct. 26, 1955 [Nov. 15, 1954], No. 30622/55. Class 123(2) A forced-circulation boiler comprises an upright furnace 14 tangentially fired by corner-mounted, tiltable burner units 16 disposed near the furnace top, combustion gases passing downwardly through the furnace to a bottom outlet 18 through which the gases flow into a horizontal pass 36 locating a reheater 40 and thence into a vertical pass 38 locating a superheater 44. From the upper end of the pass 38 a duct 52 leads the gases to an air-heater 50 posithroughout their length, the tubes extending from a lower water drum 34 to an upper header 24 whence pipes 25 conduct tioned between the pass and the furnace. The furnace walls and roof are lined with steam generating tubes 20 welded together the steam-water mixture into a steam and water drum 26 positioned about midway between the top and bottom of the furnace. Downcomers 28 connect the drum 26 with a circulating pump 30 which delivers water via the drum 34 to the tubes 20 at the inlet of each of which a proportioning nozzle is fitted. Steam temperature is controlled by adjusting the tilt of the burner units 16. Two such boilers may be mounted side-by-side to constitute a single unit, the drum 26 and a stack 54 then serving both boilers. The entire boiler installation is supported from a steel framework 56 extending only slightly above the drum 26, the furnace portion above the framework being supported by the welded water walls.
