Abstract
555,703. Muffle kilns. CRAIG, J. March 2, 1942, No. 2693. [Class 51 (ii)] A muffle furnace comprises an arched heating chamber surrounding an inner chamber the side walls and arched roof of which are formed of blocks 13, Fig. 9, with opposed recesses 13a in which rebated members 21, 22 are mounted having apertures 20a filled in by thin fireproof material. The end walls include blocks with central holes similarly filled, and transverse flues 7, Fig. 2, under the floor lead to a central longitudinal flue 9 leading, in turn, to a discharge flue 17, Fig. 1. Fire boxes 12 are provided and the gases are led to the space 4 between the arches and thence down passages 5 to the flues 7 ; a vent 18 is provided for the inner chamber.
