Pottery and like kilns; tunnel kilns.-In pottery or like kilns or ovens, of the kind heated by flues or chambers arranged within the oven openended vertical pipes h extend through each of the heating flues c and communicate with a passage l' beneath the base o of the flue to permit circulation of the kiln atmosphere. The kiln wall is provided with an insulating lining g of refractory material. Fig. 3 shows an oven heated by superposed flues c, c' each provided with vertical pipes h, the air rising through the pipes of the lower flue c<1> pacing through the aperture m<1> to the oven chamber a and partly through passages l formed in the supporting platform k to the tubes h of the upper flue c, from which it re-enters the oven a through an opening m. In a further modification the pipes h are arranged close together on the sides of the flues c, c<1> adjacent the oven wall, the lining g being in this case omitted.
