Abstract

275,048. Marlow, J. Oct. 18, 1926. Tunnel kilns.-In a gas-fired tunnel kiln or oven for burning tiles, pottery ware &c. having combustion chambers b in the side walls, the air for combustion is heated in pipes c arranged in the outside of, and in close proximity to the crown of the kiln, and is passed to hot air chambers d adjacent the combustion chambers, and communicating therewith through openings f. Gas is supplied through flues a, and the heating- gases pass at the ends of the chambers b through openings g, g<2> to flues h, h<3>, h<2>, and thence through damper-controlled openings h' and h<5> to flues j at the sides of the crown. Air from the turned chamber may be passed to the hot air chambers d through pipes e. The combustion chambers may extend upwards as far only as the springers of the arch, or the two combustion chambers on opposite sides of the tunnel may be connected above the crown. Air circulating passages, open at both ends to the tunnel chamber, may extend beneath and at the back of the combustion chambers. The side walls of the tunnel may be built of tongued and grooved bricks W, Fig. 10, each having a corrugated panel w<4> set in a flat frame or surround w<6>. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 232,480.
