Abstract

358,292. Gas-fired tunnel &c. kilns. STEELE, H., Niddrie Fireclay Works, Portobello, Midlothian. Oct. 15, 1930, No. 30803. [Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii).] A gas-fired oven or kiln, such as a tunnel kiln for use in the manufacture of tiles, pottery, &c., is provided with burners consisting of horizontal gas passages E terminating in elongated slits F opening upwardly and passages H discharging preheated air through the kiln walls to mix with the gas. The mixture is ignited through openings J. The parts of the kiln walls above the slits F are inclined so as to deflect the flame on the articles to be fired. To render the cooling of the ware gradual a fan draws the hot gases towards the outlet end of the kiln and burners are arranged in the cooling zone. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 16970/14, [Class 51 (ii), Furnaces and kilns for applying &c.].
