Abstract

486,628. Tunnel kilns. GIBBONS BROS., Ltd., and. EDWARDS, E. W. June 4, 1937, No. 15500. [Class 51 (ii)] Emission of hot gases, preventing.-In a tunnel kiln for ceramic and like ware in which outflow of hot gases at the exit end of tunnel is prevented by supplying air under pressure in counterflow to the issuing gases, as described, e.g. in Specification 485,578, the air is taken from flues 13 in the side walls of the tunnel, or from an extension 22 of the tunnel beyond the air delivery nozzles 7, or from both. As shown, the suction side of the supply fan 10 is connected by damper-controlled ducts 27, 18 with the extension chamber 22 and with a roof flue 15 into which the side wall flues 13 open.
