Continuous kilns.-Kilns of the Hoffman type for firing bricks, pottery, &c. are heated by a mixture of powdered fuel and air delivered to the kiln chamber through narrow slots f in the walls and roof. The slots may flare towards the kiln chamber, and the mixture is preferably supplied at the lowest pressure at which the fuel can be conveyed.
