Metal-heating furnaces.-In a pit furnace for heating ingots, a combustion chamber C for powdered fuel is so arranged in relation to the heating-chamber D that the ingots are exposed to radiant heat from the combustion chamber. The heating-gases are exhausted through a flue B. The chamber C is preferably arranged as shown with its longitudinal axis parallel to that of the heating- chamber.
