Abstract
270,845. Procter, H. A. March 2, 1926. Pulverulent-fuel furnaces; walls.-In a pulverulent-fuel furnace, the floor a<1> and the lower part of the side and rear walls d, e of the combustion chamber are provided with cooling passages and flues c, f, through which air, steam, or other gas passes to ports g delivering into the combustion chamber. To minimise the deposition of slag on the walls d, e, the latter are formed with stepped overhanging brickwork p at their upper ends and with overhung portions h immediately above the ports g, the slag dropping from these projecting portions directly on to the floor a'. The parts h are, in a modified construction, formed by projections which present a downwardly inclined face to the interior of the combustion chamber. In the upper part of the front, back, and side walls n, d, e, is arranged an air-heating flue system k, j, l, m, the hot air being delivered through openings o adjacent the burners b; conduits may be disposed within this flue system for heating the fuel and or air for combustion. To prevent the walls d, e from bulging inwardly they are built so as to curve outwards slightly. Figs. 6 and 11 show a modification in which the parts of the walls n, d, e containing the flues k, j, l, m, are formed of bricks q having central apertures r and semi-circular recesses b so that they may be threaded on vertical water-tubes t connecting upper and lower headers u.
