Abstract

241,885. Duquenne, C. Oct. 27, 1924, [Convention date]. Pulverulent-fuel furnaces; cooling.-Fusion of ashes is prevented in furnaces burning pulverulent fuel by a cooling screen comprising stationary conduits A through which air for combustion is circulated arranged in the lower part of the furnace. The conduits A are supported on I-beams 17 and built up of sections 18 connected by suitable joints. The conduits are protected by lateral refractory members 20 engaging with lugs 18<1> on the conduits and held in position by upper refractory members 19. Atmospheric air under the control of dampers 14 enters the conduits at the front of the furnace and is delivered through passages 15 and openings 16 in the fire-bridge to the combustion chamber. Instead of air being drawn through the conduits by the natural draught of the furnace it may be forced or circulated by other means. Air under the control of dampers is also admitted to the furnace through passages 12 and openings 11 in the side walls.
