Abstract

Fig. 1, are arranged across the rear of the grate A to receive and heat air from the, ash-pit and deliver it to a combustion chamber C<1> lined with refractory blocks d, d , d<2>. At the rear of the combustion chamber are provided refractorv blocks E, Figs. 1 and 3, supported on slabs f resting on blocks F. Inclined passages e are provided in the blocks E to form sinuous passages for the combustion products when two or more blocks are arranged back to back. For large flues, the blocks E, which are. preferably of standard size, are separated by girder-shape blocks G, Fig. 9, built in between them and resting on the slabs f. A baffle of the form deecribed in Specification 209,359 may be arranged at the rear end of the flue.
