Abstract
236,845. Talbot, F. J. Feb. 6, 1925. Fire-bridges; air, supplying; baffles.-In a steam boiler furance, of the kind in which heated air is supplied to the flue from one or more chambers behind the bridge, the upper parts of the sides e of each chamber converge, as shown at f, the slot g between them being covered, so as to prevent clogging by ashes, by a bar h which is arranged to leave lateral openings for the passage of air and is made in sections supported by the end walls of the chamber and by intermediate bearers i, j. Air from the ash-pit is admitted to the chamber through a door m operated by a rod r from the front of the furnace, a tray-like baffle o, p, pivoted to the door m and resting on a rod q, being provided to ensure that, when the door m is open, only the hottest air, i.e. that in contact with the underside of the grate c, enters the heating chamber. A stop k on the rear end of the chamber prevents displacement of the bar h by expansion.
