Abstract

287,255. Bennis, A. W. Dec. 80, 1926 Arches; grates; smoke, consuming.-A stean generator furnace is provided with a damper-con trolled flue 22, 23, Fig. 1, in the arch 16 for carry ing the gases from the front of the furnace to the combustion chamber where the draught, is greater than at the rear of the grate and with grate bar, having inclined air ports 26 adapted to direct air in a forward direction towards the incoming fuel The arch and front and rear walls of the furnace are provided with air passages for cooling purposes The side walls of the furnaces are provided with water or steam tubes 15 also for cooling purposes The grate may be of the kind described in Specification 275,290 or provided with links having air ports the outer ends of which are inclined forwardly while the rear ends pass around the pivotal centres of the links as shown at 33, in Fig. 3. Grooves 35 and lateral air spaces may be provided on the sides of the links. Fig. 2 shows a modified form of arch with damper-controlled flue 30. The draught through the flue in the arch may be assisted by a fan or other inducing means. Specification 222,537<*> also is referred to.
