707,391. Heating air for blast furnaces. YATES, E. J. C. March 27, 1951 [Nov. 22, 1950], No. 28590/50. Class 64(1) The air blast for a blast furnace, after being heated to a temperature of the order of that conventionally used for the air blast of a blast furnace, e.g. 600‹C, is further heated, e.g. to 700 or 800‹C, by burning in the blast a combustible, substantially ash-free material, e.g. oil or blast furnace gas. The combustible material may be burnt in a portion of the air blast which is afterwards added to the main part of the blast. Supplementary oxygen or air may be added to the blast. Specifications 544,719, [Group XII], and 690,427 are referred to. According to the Provisional Specification solid fuel may be used.
