Abstract
284,606. Wessel, C. Jan. 31, 1927, [Convention date]. Coke ovens.-In a verticallv-flued coke oven in which combustion is effected at a number of points in the flues so as to give a long flame, rich gas is burnt with a limited quantity of primary air, and the products are led at a number of points into the flues where combustion is completed by secondary air. A preliminary combustion chamber h at the base of each heating-flue is supplied with gas from the conduit c and air from the regenerator g. The partly burnt gases enter a conduit l within the heating-flue e, and pass out through ports m arranged at various heights, combustion being completed by secondary air from the regenerator k. When the even is to be fired by lean gas the whole of the air is supplied through the regenerator k, while the regenerator g is used for preheating the gas.
