Abstract

518,121. Gas retort furnaces. DRAKES, Ltd., and THOMPSON, M. June 15, 1938, No. 17738. [Class 51 (ii)] A retort furnace is provided with tiers of retorts 8 which are narrow in width compared with their depth and are supported by transverse walls 20 forming vertical flues 12, 12a for the burning gases which meet at the top and enter horizontal flues 10 at the top of the setting. The gases pass towards the centre of the setting and down vertical flues 11 from which they are directed through flues 11a adjacent to sinuous secondary air heating flues 5 arranged at the sides and centre of the setting. Gas from the producer 2 passes to chambers 3 and through openings 7 to combustion chambers 4 where they meet secondary air from the sinuous air heating flues admitted to the combustion chambers through openings 6.
