Abstract

469,799. Recirculating combustion products in furnaces. ESKE, F., and SCHEPERS, C. A. Nov. 1, 1935, No. 30250. Convention date, Nov. 1, 1934. [Class 51 (i)] In a furnace more particularly for burning low grade fuel, rich gases are collected from immediately above the fuel bed by means of tubes 3 and are conducted without contacting with the heat discharging walls of the furnace into a mixing chamber 5 where they are mixed with gases taken from the flue and are then returned to beneath the grate. The flue gases are withdrawn from outlets 14 in the sides of the combustion chamber 1 intermediate the grate and the top of the fuel bed and pass, as shown by the arrows in Fig. 2, into a flue 15 from which some pass upwardly through a collector 4 into the mixing chamber. The gases may be withdrawn and recirculated by the action of a fan 6 or when slow combustion is required the circulation is effected under the influence of chimney suction alone. The flue, rich gas collector and flue gas collector are: controlled by dampers 10, 17 and 18 respectively.
