Abstract

245,653. Cornet, E. Aug. 16, 1924. Shaft furnaces.-In a shaft furnace for roasting or calcining lime or other material, air, preheated in flues d in the furnace wall, is supplied through two series of apertures c<2>, c<1>, the former delivering into the calcination zone and the latter supplying air for effecting combustion of the carbon monoxide produced. The pre-heating flues d communicate with the flues b supplying the ports c', c<2>, through a chamber e fitted with dampers c, d<1> controlling the two sets of flues. Air may also be admitted through a flue f<1> provided in a central core f.
