Abstract
203,757. Roper, E. A. June 9, 1922. Cupola furnaces.-In a foundry cupola having above its upper end an arched or curved wall 3 for deflecting the gases downwards into a chamber c where sparks and solid matter are deposited, an uptake 4 is arranged adjacent the chamber c and in it are fitted air-heating pipes 8. which communicate on the one hand with a low pressure fan 10 for delivering air to the pipes, and on the other with a blower 9 for forcing the heated air into the furnace. The fan and blower are housed in an enclosed space J.2 beneath the chamber c and the uptake 4, and a door 6 is provided for the removal of deposited matter from the chamber c. Two cupolas built side by side may have a common uptake and air-heating arrangements.
