Grates; furnace fireplaces; firebridges; ashes and flue-dust, collecting and removing.-Two inclined fuel surfaces b are arranged back to back in the centre of the furnace with horizontal grates c on both sides and along the walls, feeder chutes a for the fuel being positioned adjacent a central partition n extending to the roof o of the furnace. The inclined surfaces bare made of refractory material and have openings d for the admission of air or other gas under pressure. The fire-bridge e has openings f communicating with a space h open to the atmosphere for the supply of additional air. An ash-' pit j with cleaning-doors j is provided for the two furnaces. Further feeding-doors l and cleaning- doors k are provided for each grate and a peephole m for viewing the furnace.
