Abstract

297,685. Sieff, W. Sept. 24, 1927, [Convention date]. Grates.-A boiler furnace for central heating installations comprises a natural draught grate having one or more sections 3, 4, Figs. 1 and 2, adapted to act as a low pressure forced. draught grate, when required, arranged where the fuel layer 7 is thickest and grate sections 5 operating with natural draught only. When forced draught is supplied to the sections 3, 4 by the blast apparatus 1, 2 or by a fan, the gases pass laterally through the lower layer of fuel to the adjacent natural draught grate sections 5 through which they pass downwardly and finally pass upwardly again through the parts of these grate sections where the layer of fuel is thinnest. When combustion of the fuel bed is sufficiently established both grate sections operate under natural draught. Modifications are described and shown in which the natural draught grate section is arranged at the centre or rear of the furnace. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91. (3) (a) comprises a further modification shown in Fig. 3 (Cancelled), but this does not appear in the Specification. as accepted.
