Abstract
380,184. Furnace walls. AMERICAN ENGINEERING CO., Aramingo Avenue, Philadelphia, U.S.A. July 1, 1931, No. 18993. Convention date, May 15. [Class 51 (i).] In a furnace having oppositely-arranged inclined and downwardly-converging combustion grates 1, the side walls 11 are provided with fluid-cooled panels 12 bounding the sides of the grates and extending from the upper part of one grate to the upper part of the opposite grate. The panels are of the kind described in Specification 297,094, [Class 51 (i), Furnaces and kilns, Combustion apparatus of], and are provided with tubes 13 connected to upper headers 14 and a lower header 15 above the ashpit 2. The header 15 may be arranged behind the face of the panel as shown at 34 in Fig. 5, and protected by blocks in a similar manner to the tubes 33 as indicated at 37. The tubes 23 of the panels may be connected to separate headers 25 arranged at the rear of the wall, as shown in Fig. 3, or to headers 44 as shown in Fig. 7, refractory cement 45 being inserted between the bends of the tubes. The headers 44 may be replaced by a single header. In a further modification, the cooling panels are extended downwardly to cover the ashpit walls, the tubes 63 being connected to a horizontal header 64 as shown in Fig. 12. In a further modification the lower ends of the tubes are connected to headers 74, refractory cement being provided at 75, as shown in Fig. 14.
