Abstract
382,487. Furnace walls. AMERICAN ENGINEERING CO., Aramingo Avenue, Philadelphia, U.S.A. Jan. 22, 1932, No. 1998. Convention date, Aug. 6, 1931. [Class 51 (i).] Relates to means for maintaining the fluid-cooled walls of furnaces, such, for instance, as are described in Specification 173,596, [Class 51 (i), Furnaces and kilns, Combustion apparatus of], free from slag accumulations. As shown, the side wall 3 is arranged adjacent to one of a series of retorts and tuyeres comprising a stoker 4 extending from the front wall 1 and terminating in an ashpit 5. The side walls comprise a fluid-cooled panel 6, Fig. 2, with a series of tubes 7 extending from a header 8 to a header 9 behind the rear wall 2. A series of facing blocks 13, formed with curved recesses to accommodate the tubes, are held in position by studs 17 passing through clamping bars 18. The upper series of blocks 13b is formed with a projecting lower edge so as to form an inclined ledge overhanging the panel and to deflect the slag away from the surface into the fuel bed. The rear wall 2 is provided with similar blocks 14a.
