488,825. Water-tube boiler furnaces. FOSTER WHEELER, Ltd. Nov. 19, 1937, No. 31898. Convention date, Nov. 19, 1936. [Class 51 (i)] [Also in Group XIII] The hot gases from pulverized coal, or liquid- or gaseous-fuel burners 37 at the front of combustion chambers at the sides of a vertical water-tube boiler 14 flow horizontally towards the rear of the chambers and then back and around walls 32 between the chambers and the water-tubes. The gases first pass through a water-tube slag screen 34 and then flow forwardly over looped superheater tubes 30 and the boiler tubes 14. Downcomers 25 between groups of boiler tubes are shielded by refractory material. The furnace walls are cooled by water tubes 36. The burners are supplied with secondary air from a casing 40 having outlet passages 41 above and below the burner nozzles.
