Abstract

513,196. Steam generators. TONGEREN, H. VAN. Oct. 14, 1938, No. 29806. [Class 51 (i)] [Also in Group XIII] The gases from the combustion chamber of a coal-fired water-tube boiler pass to water tubes 11 beyond the combustion chamber through a downwardly tapering flue 9 one side of which is formed by a wall of the combustion chamber and the other side by spaced transverse tubes 10. Solid particles discharged at the lower end of the flue may be returned to the furnace by air supplied under pressure through nozzles 12. The front and side walls of the combustion chamber are lined with water tubes 3 connected to headers 4, 5. The sloping rear wall of the chamber is formed of refractory material which rests on water tubes 8 supported by horizontal water-cooled members 7. The tubes 10 may be arranged in transverse pairs the tube of each pair being welded to strips of metal on both sides to form gas passages between the pairs of tubes.
