Abstract
388,542. Furnace walls. AMERICAN ENGINEERING CO., Aramingo Avenue, Philadelphia, U.S.A. Jan. 13, 1932, No. 1028. Convention date, Oct. 30, 1931. [Class 51 (i).] In a stoker-fed furnace of the type shown in Specification 374,475 there is provided a fuel supporting structure 1 terminating in an ash pit 3, a rear wall 14, and a tubular fluid-cooled suspended panel 16 forming one wall of the ash pit and terminating short of the bottom of it, means being also provided, e.g. a crusher roll 11 coacting with a crusher plate 12 and a curved plate, for discharging ashes transversely beneath the lower edge of the panel 16. The panel 16 comprises upper and lower headers 21, 22 connected by a series of tubes 23 and fed through a fluid circulating system 24, 25. The panel is suspended at 32, 33, 34 to a transverse beam 31 and is free to expand longitudinally of the tubes 23 by a slidable angleiron connection 35, 36, 37. Facing blocks 26, 29 are attached to the tubes 23 by clamps 27, passing between them, and refractory material is also provided at 39, 43. Two furnace installations may be arranged back to back with a common ash-removing space 45 between. In a modification the panel comprises upper and lower headers 51, 52, fed by a circulating system 54, 55, the connecting tubes 53 being bent backwardly at the bottom as shown. Expansion of the panel longitudinally of the tubes 53 is allowed by pin connections 62 passing through apertures in a transverse beam 66.
