Abstract

1,100,083. Tube walls. BABCOCK & WILCOX CO. 16 Aug., 1966 [19 Aug., 1965], No. 36539/66. Heading F4B. Combustion chamber wall 10, formed of boiler tubes 12 joined by intermediate membrane bars 13, is provided with horizontal rows of aligned pairs of U-shaped lugs 38, between which tie bars 16 are inserted, the bars 16 being retained in place by removable locking pins 40 inserted through the aligned lugs 38. The tie bars 16 are secured to reinforcing buckstays 18 through lugs 22 and buckstay brackets 20. At their ends, each tie bar 16 is pivotably connected to the buckstay of an adjacent wall (Fig. 1) through corner brackets 30, links 26 and plates (24) welded to the buckstays, to allow relative expansion of the tube walls and the buckstays. Metallic filler bars (36, Fig. 5) may be welded between adjacent tubes 12 to provide a flat bearing surface for the tie bars.
