Abstract
266,538. Neil, J., and Neil, J. M. Feb. 26, 1926. Firebridges.-In a boiler furnace a chamber j is located behind the ashpit end plate a and firebridge b, the roof of the chamber being formed of spaced curved or half-arched bars f having pockets g carrying bricks h also spaced apart so as to leave perforations i in the roof. Air from the space k below the firebars l is admitted to the chamber j through an opening m in the plate a, controlled by a damper n adapted to slide on rods o and operated by a rod q extending to the front of the furnace. The bars f are supported between a rearwardly projecting flange c on the plate a and the upper edge of a plate d secured to the end plate a by tie-rods e. Extending between the bars f and supported at their ends in the pockets g, are the tapered bricks h, the pockets being so arranged that the upper surfaces of the bricks lie on an unbroken curved plane which extends from the level of the firebridge b rearwards and upwards. A soot opening r fitted with a door s is provided in the plate a and a similar door may be fitted in the plate d. The sliding damper n may be mounted on the tie-rods e that connect the plates a, d.
