[Class 51 (i)] Combustion of small fuel is effected in a trough 5 which is placed upon the usual grate and, as shown in Fig. 1, supports a stepped tuyÞre 1 provided with lateral blast orifices 3 and deflecting surfaces 1<a> for fuel falling from the hopper 6. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the tuyÞre has curved lateral walls 1<1> and a cap 8 provided with deflecting surfaces 8<b> and lateral blast orifices 3 beneath the cap. Fig. 4 shows a further modification in which the tuyÞre comprises upper and lower communicating water-cooled members 1<111>, 1<11> arranged in the water circulation system of the boiler, the upper member being provided with diverging deflecting surfaces 8<c> and the lower member with converging surfaces, lateral orifices 12 being provided between the two members for the discharge of blast.
