Pulverulent-fuel furnaces; fuel, feeding. - To prevent the fusion of ash in the lower part of the combustion chamber of a pulverulent-fuel furnace, the lower part of the combustion chamber is screened by the unburnt fuel as it is injected horizontally across the combustion chamber, air for combustion being admitted below the fuel screen. As shown in Fig. 1, the fuel is injected through a nozzle 17 by oppositely-rotating drums 18, 19 and the air is supplied through inlets 7, 8 in the front and rear walls of the combustion chamber A. The upper parts of these walls where combustion is complete may be protected bv tubes 12 connected to the boiler. In a modification, the air supply may be preheated in a casing surrounding the boiler.
