Pulverulent-fuel furnaces; ashpits. - A pulverulent-fuel furnace comprises a combustion chamber a with a sloping base c leading to a sump d in which slag or ash collects and is dis. charged into a pit e through an aperture g eccentrically arranged thereto. The aperture g is provided with a lip g<1> to cause the slag or ash when molten to fall in the form of drops clear of the side walls of the pit. The pit is provided with an inclined bottom f cooled by air which flows from the atmosphere or from a blower through the space h, formed by a plate i, to passages k and jacket i surrounding the combustion chamber. The air may be used for combustion. The plate f may be cooled by water. Specification 284,738 is referred to.
