Glass furnaces.-A grate B is provided just beneath the eye D as in the old English type of furnace, and heated secondary air from a recuperator H is introduced into the eye through passages J. Fuel is preferably fed to the grate by a mechanical stoker, such as the Fisbie feeder. The eye D may taper upwards.
