Abstract

197,993. Toogood, H. J., and Dempster & Sons, Ltd., R. Jan. 21, 1922. Fire-bars and grates.-The grate of a gas-producer furnace comprises inclined bars a the lower ends of which are spaced from the rear wall of the furnace by a narrow ash-discharge aperture j, the width of which may be adjusted to suit the kind of fuel. The bars a are provided at their upper ends with notches b, any one of which may engage a tooth c on a bearer d having notches for spacing the bars. The lower ends of the bars rest in grooves formed in the lower bearer bar g. The bars may be shaken to shear clinker by inserting a suitable tool in holes h formed in the bars. The upper surfaces of the bars are grooved to allow 'the passage of water supplied by a pipe n for cooling purposes.
