Abstract
748,596. Tunnel furnaces. HEURTEY & CIE. July 1, 1952 [Feb. 8, 1952], No. 16509/52. Class 51(2). A tunnel furnace is divided into sections or closed at its ends by a thin gaseous curtain comprising gases withdrawn from the furnace by a fan 11 through ports 7, a duct 9 and a cooler 10, and re-introduced into the furnace through roof nozzles 13 to form the gaseous curtain. In a modification, Fig.2 (not shown), the gases pass from the furnace into a side flue under suction of a jet discharging into a venturi leading to a top header from which the gases pass through roof nozzles to form the gaseous curtain in the furnace. A number of sets of roof jets may be closely spaced together, each fed by its own venturi jet, which jet may be replaced by a burner.
