12,180. Dennis, J. Aug. 24. Tunnel kilns for firing pottery, enamel ware, glass ware, &c. The cooling-portion B<x> is made of larger cross-sectional area than the burning- chamber B and is also formed of gradually increasing cross-sectional area by inclining the floor downwards, by inclining the roof upwards, or by providing diverging side walls. As shown, the chamber B is heated externally by gases which pass in a serpentine course from the furnace A to a dampered outlet flue E. The cooling-chamber, which is provided with vent holes, is separated from the burning-chamber by a vertically adjustable door J, and inspection openings H are arranged as shown.
