Abstract
191,206. Faþoneisen - Walzwerk L. Mannstaedt et Cie, Akt.-Ges., and Bansen, H. Oct. 22, 1921. Regenerators; gaseous-fuel furnaces.- In a hot-blast stove a combustion chamber d is arranged beneath vertical heating passages g, which are formed, as shown in Fig. 1, of brickwork built up of individual arched layers each separately supported by the outer wall a, which may thus be made of diminishing strength towards the top. Empty arched chambers, Fig. 17, may be arranged between the layers, and an insulating layer v is provided between the wall a and the refractory lining f of the combustion chamber. The arches may be built up of bricks of various shapes, two of which are shown in Figs. 12 and 14, these shapes being such that, when the arch is completed, the passages g are all of the same cross-sectional area. This construction of heating passages may also be applied to furnace regenerators. In the case of a hot-blast stove, gas pipes n deliver tangentially into the combustion chamber and are arranged concentrically within air pipes m which communicate with the atmosphere through openings closed by dampers o. In operation, the dampers o are opened and the brickwork heated to the required temperature, the waste gases escaping through the pipe k. The gas-supply valve q and the cover l are then closed and air allowed to flow in through the pipe s and pass down through the heating passages g to the pipes m, being finally drawn off through the conduit u.
