Abstract

1,032,617. Furnace roofs. KOHË-•S G•PIPARI MINISZTERIUM TUZEIEST•CHNIKA KUTATË INTEZET. Nov. 6, 1964 [Dec. 3, 1963], No. 45385/64. Heading F4B. An arched furnace roof is formed of bricks having grooves 2 in the side face parallel to the hot end of the brick, and perpendicular grooves 4 leading from the grooves 2 to the hot end, so that the furnace roof has channels 2a extending across the arch and passages 4 leading from the channels through the furnace roof. Air fed through the channels 2a forms a protective cushion below the roof, and assists in completing combustion. The channels 2a may accommodate a perforated steel tube forming part of the supporting structure of the roof, and the end bricks 7 of the arch have extensions 8 dipping into sand seals 6 at the top of the furnace walls. The bricks may be formed into self-supporting panels which may be sealed side by side to form the furnace roof.
