1308937 Bricks WILNECOTE BRICK CO Ltd 1 Nov 1971 [13 Oct 1970] 48540/70 Heading C1J Blue bricks are made by burning an Etruria Marl, in which a manganese compound equivalent to 0À5-1% by weight of manganese dioxide has been incorporated in a continuous process in a kiln, e.g. a tunnel kiln, which is operated so as to provide a non-oxidizing atmosphere while heating from 950‹ C. is proceeding and also during at least part of the cooling. Manganese dioxide can be added to the marl as a liquid suspension or as a dry powder.
