588,304. Charging furnaces. GREEN, E. W. Nov. 6, 1944, No. 21713. [Class 51 (ii)] [Also in Group XXX] - Means for charging vertical kilns comprises a container the base 11 of which is slidable with respect to the sides 12 and means for supporting the container when the base is withdrawn, said means comprising fixed stops 24, whose inclined upper faces 25 engage inclined rails 23 attached to the outside of the container. The container 12 is mounted on a trolley which comprises the base 11. If desired the container may be additionally raised by a tackle 18. The container may be equipped with a grating 41 such that materials, e.g., slurry may be briquetted before kilning. The walls of the container may also be lined with fire tiles, or absorbent materials such as chalk or other porous blocks.
