Abstract

A monolithic wall for a glass-melting furnace is made by the setting of an aqueous aluminous cement containing about 75% alumina, mixed with 75-80% by weight of corundum aggregates, the water content being about 8-10% reckoned on the weight of the aggregates and the particle size of the aggregates 0,1-10 mms. A typical example has an inner lining with a composition- .Corundum.100 parts by weight .Refractory aluminous. .cement.17 parts by weight .Water.8,5 parts by weight with a less refractory outer lining having a composition- .Chamotte.150 parts by weight .Aluminous cement. .(40% alumina).40 parts by weight .Water.24 parts by weight The concrete was vibrated and kept at 35 DEG C. during setting, being then heated up to 1450 DEG C. within 44 hrs.
