Abstract

A refractory cement composition comprises calcium aluminate cement, sodium bicarbonate and a citrate, e.g. sodium citrate. Preparations specified are 0.05-3% by weight sodium bicarbonate and 0.1-1.5% by weight of sodium citrate, the balance being cement. The calcium aluminate cement may be an under-converted clinker and may contain more than 0.25% of lime. A refractory aggregate may be included in the composition, e.g. calcined fire clay, chrome ore, kyanite, olivine, vermiculite, and calcined alumina.
