[Class 51 (ii)] In an underfired coke oven the rich gas ducts extending vertically through the silica brickwork of the regenerator structure, are built out of exact alignment with the gas pipe apertures in the concrete supporting platform for the oven to such an extent that the ducts and apertures will be brought into register when the oven attains its working temperature. To allow the pipes to be fixed in position before alignment has been attained, the apertures in the platforms or the lower ends of the gas ducts may be elongated transversely of the battery.
